Tackling Opioid Dependence Through a Customized Addiction Treatment Program

What is Dual Diagnosis?

The National Alliance on Mental Illness describes dual diagnosis as, “a term used to describe people with mental illness who have coexisting problems with drugs and/or alcohol.” They go on to state that, “the relationship between the two is complex, and the treatment of people with co-occurring substance abuse (or substance dependence) and mental illness is more complicated than the treatment of either condition alone.” A dual diagnosis program focuses on both the psychological and physical aspects of your addiction, ensuring that a solid framework is built to support your lasting recovery. Through the use of a clinically managed detox, intensive therapy, and Vivitrol, individuals who are dependent on opioids will receive a comprehensive addiction treatment plan that addresses all of their side effects.

What is a Medically Administered Detox?

A clinically managed detox allows for you to cut all ties with your substance abuse at the source. Part of your early steps in addiction recovery is detoxing. Many clients are concerned with experiencing painful withdrawal symptoms; however, our professional staff members will ease you into your detox. This procedure maintains the individual’s safety and comfort throughout the duration of the treatment. Our staff members will comprehensively assess your levels of addiction with information provided by your past and current history with substance abuse.

What is Vivitrol?

Vivitrol is a, “prescription injectable medicine used to prevent relapse to opioid dependence after opioid detox.” The medication puts a cap on your opiate receptors and effectively blocks the euphoric effects of opiates like heroin or prescription painkillers. When combined with counseling, Vivitrol greatly helps with managing dependence on opioids. While the medication will block the intense high gained from opioids, it does so without preventing the good feelings that arise from naturally pleasing activities. Because of the long acting formula, Vivitrol only needs to be administered once a month.

What Kind of Counseling is Involved?

Throughout your addiction recovery program, various types of therapy should be involved. Individual counseling is the perfect place to dig deep with an educated profession and learn about the root of your addiction. Group therapy is an ideal setting to learn from others who have gone through similar experiences. Family services are also an integral part of treatment. You will be able to have productive family discussions, moderated by a professional, as you prepare to integrate back into home life.
