Addiction Recovery Aid Is Just a Button Away

Addiction Recovery Doesn’t Have To Be a Struggle

The first 90 days of your addiction recovery program are the hardest. It is a time where your mind and body are detoxing the harmful chemicals that are left from your substance abuse. However, your journey doesn’t end at the United Drug Rehab Group after your addiction recovery program is complete. It can take years to a lifetime to be able to live your life without feeling the need to abuse drugs and alcohol. Therapy does help, but your therapist cannot be with you all the time. Fortunately, the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center has created an app specifically for substance abusers that is just a touch screen away.

A Support System Right In Your Pocket

It is obvious that technology is something that we all depend on. We are constantly on our phones whether it is for work, social networking, or for other miscellaneous activities. So why not have an app that aids those who struggle with addiction and who are in addiction recovery? This is what the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center has created. Due to the tripling numbers of heroin abusers between the years of 2007 and 2013 within Marion, Ohio, Brandi Spaulding, along with other computer science and psychology students, thought that creating an app for Android users with heroin addictions would be a helpful tool for those in recovery. The app has almost everything one would need such as:

  • inspirational quotes
  • motivational stories
  • testimonials from other recovery clients
  • monitoring of mood
  • stress level indication
  • tracking the desire to use heroin
  • 10 support contacts
  • coin rewards for sobriety milestones

The app even keeps track of the days you have remained sober, and there is a panic button if you feel that you are about to relapse.

Press The PANIC Button!

When you feel that you are about to relapse or you are having a hard time staying sober, press the panic button. This will cause with the app the app to immediately send out a message that states “I need help, and I need it now” to all of your support contacts. These can include friends, family, and counselors. Your support system will be able to contact you immediately and come to your aid.

The Near Future

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is busy designing the app for iPhone users as well. In addition to the already existing qualities of the heroin addiction recovery app, Spaulding wants to add a GPS locator that allows for you to find a nearby meeting or for your support group to find where you are, when you press the panic button for help. Creators also want to make the app available for other types of drug and alcohol abuse. Your journey to sobriety doesn’t have to end at the United Drug Rehab Group facility. You do not have to feel alone either. If you are currently an Android Smartphone user and are struggling with addiction, download the app now! Have your support system right in your pocket.
